About the Cubo AI Plus

With over 1200 reviews on Amazon and an average rating of 4.5 stars, the Cubo AI WiFi smart baby monitor is a great choice for any new parents looking for a smart baby monitor that is compatible with their smartphone or tablet.

The Cubo AI has a variety of features to make monitoring the sleep of your new baby a breeze. We have personally used this product since our baby was a few weeks old and started being able to sleep alone for longer periods of time.

It works with iPhone and Android phones and the setup is very simple using their prompt and pairing it with the WiFi in your home. Once it is set up you are able to see and hear your baby in high resolution streaming to the app installed on your phone.

First impressions and setup of the Cubo AI Plus

The first thing we noticed when the Cubo AI Plus was delivered was that it was packaged very well. The insert of the box has neat cardboard forms that hold each part of the baby monitor in a way that it is unlikely to be damaged during shipping.

It comes with the baby monitor itself, two USB cables in different lengths that are used for powering the device, a floor stand and a wall mount for holding the Cubo AI Plus baby monitor.

Setting up our Cubo AI Plus was very simple. After downloading the Cubo AI app, we entered our WiFi network and password and followed the step-by-step instructions on pairing the device to our network. This was done by holding down the button on the back of the baby monitor for ten seconds and then scanning the QR code from the Cubo AI app on our phone with the camera on the device itself.

After we heard the chime that our smart baby monitor setup was complete, we were able to see video streaming to the app. I have done this process a few different times by now since unfortunately one of the downsides is that when you take it on vacation or join another WiFi network you must go through this setup again. It takes approximately 5 minutes to get paired with a WiFi network and is not a big problem.

How is the Cubo AI video quality?

We find the picture quality to be perfect. It streams to your smartphone or tablet via the app in 1080p to a point where you can see your baby breathing in and out, which for new parents is one of the things we were always paranoid about. Seeing our daughter breathing in and out set our minds at ease before going to sleep ourselves.

When the lights in the room are out, which is the majority of the time since like most babies our sleeps in near pitch black, the camera's night vision is basically perfect. While not in color anymore, the details are great and we can make out a clear picture of what our daughter is doing when she sleeps.

What safety features does the Cubo AI Plus have?

In addition to lullabies and white noise, there is also cough detection and rollover alerts that will give a push notification on your phone when your little one rolls over, coughs, or is otherwise outside of an optionally custom-made safe-zone that you can define yourself.

When our daughter was just starting to sleep alone for extended periods of time, this was invaluable to us and gave us peace of mind to know if we had to go into her room when she was starting to get to the edge of our large bed or was possibly going to have her face covered by a nearby pillow.

The notifications are sent even when the app on your phone is not open so you can stop what you are doing and check in on your little one. We found that especially as she grew older and was able to roll from her back to her stomach safely with no risk of danger that the alerts for this were no longer necessary and could be turned off so you are only alerted to the important things.

Does the Cubo AI Plus have family sharing features?

If you would like to share access with family members or a babysitter, it is very simple to give them the ability via a link or by scanning a QR code in the app to access the camera feed.

Different levels of access can be given to each person such as administrator or simply a viewer. Once you don't want to share access anymore it can be easily deleted via the Cubo AI app.

How is the Cubo AI mounted?

The Cubo AI Plus comes with three separate mounting options. One of them is for securing the camera to the baby's crib, the other is for a travel scenario or if you have two separate rooms where the baby sleeps, and the third is a floor stand if you do not have a place to attach it directly.

All of these mounting options are extremely simple to set up and the metal tunnels used to hide the wires are well-made, secure and offer a clean visual solution to running the power wires to the electrical outlet.

When we go on vacation and bring our baby monitor, we use the free standing mounting point that can just be plugged in anywhere and secures the camera to a shelf or other surface with a view of where the baby will sleep.

For every day use, our preferred option is to use the crib attachment to secure our cubo ai baby monitor.

What noises can the Cubo AI Plus play?

The feature we love the most is the lullabies. Our baby loves to fall asleep with the sound of rain in the background and this has this and other soothing sounds to give some white noise in the background so other noises do not wake the baby up during their sleep. In addition to rain, you can choose from a large collection of popular children's lullabies such as 'Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star and 'Mary Had A Little Lamb'.

You are able to set different volumes as well as times for how long the noises should be played. Additionally you are able to set an option for the music or lullaby to repeat.

One of the only things that I was not happy with upon using this product was that the rain noise would fade in and out after 60 seconds, but this has since been fixed with an update to the Cubo AI app. I am impressed at the continued improvement of the app since we started to use this product a year ago.

Can you talk to your child with the Cubo AI baby monitor?

One of the best things about the Cubo AI Plus is that it lets you chat with your baby! With the secured two-way audio and voice recognition capabilities, parents can easily communicate with their little ones even when they're in another room. Whether it's singing nursery rhymes to comfort them, reading them a bedtime story or just reassuring them from afar, this device takes convenience and reassurance to new heights. Plus no need to sacrifice clarity for distance; its powerful microphone ensures crystal clear sound for both parent and infant.

How do the sleep analytics work on the Cubo AI Plus?

Sleep analytics are a cool feature that is offered in the Cubo AI baby monitor app. Usually about 15 minutes after our daughter wakes up, we get a message on our phone that sleep analytics are ready.

These sleep analytics include data such as how many times during the night she woke up, how many times she cried, and how many caregiver visits were needed during the night.

It is very cool to see that as our baby gets older, the graph of how many times she wakes up during the night and how many caregiver visits are required go down, indicating that she is able to self-soothe more and cope with sleeping alone better.

How is the Cubo AI audio quality?

In addition to great video quality, the audio quality is impressive as well. The Cubo AI app lets you choose an option in the settings to use it as a baby monitor, which means that when you have the app open but in the background, you will hear a live audio feed from the baby monitor.

While nothing out of the ordinary, it does allow for hearing if your little one is fussing or crying and we weren't left wanting any more out of this feature besides what is offered.

Does it have a nightlight built in?

Yes it does! To activate the nightlight, all that is needed is to go into the app settings and toggle it on. We personally do not use this as our baby prefers to sleep in the pitch black, but if the time comes then we know it's there.

Can you use the Cubo AI Plus without a subscription?

After we initially purchased the Cubo AI smart baby monitor, we have not subscribed to any premium service they offer and it works completely fine.

If you want to have data older than 30 days old you will need to subscribe to their premium plan which costs $8 per month or $80 for one year. We found this unnecessary for our purposes and continue to use it in their free model.

Can the Cubo AI Plus be hacked?

Hacking any technology, especially baby monitors can be a concern for anyone who is invested in its safety and security. The Cubo AI Plus takes extra measures to make sure it cannot be hacked, with layers of authentication and encryption protocols designed to protect its users.

You can feel confident that you will only ever see the videos that were recorded with your camera, free from any other outside sources. It is not just a matter of keeping out uninvited intruders—personal information is kept secure as well, so peace of mind is guaranteed when using the Cubo AI Plus.

Final thoughts on the Cubo AI Plus

After completing our Cubo AI review, I would confidently give this baby monitor a near perfect score. The rain lullaby fading out was the only thing I was unhappy with initially and this was fixed quickly with an app update. Not only was this fixed, but they are constantly improving and adding new features even to the non-premium subscription tier to make this product even better.

The Cubo AI Plus does everything we need it to do as new parents who want to keep an eye on our baby as she sleeps and I would recommend this over other wifi baby monitors to anyone who is in the market for a smart baby monitor compatible with their iPhone, android, or tablet device.
